MIXED METALS (ZURIK, ZORBA, HEAVIES)
What is meant by mixed metals?
Mixed metals are becoming increasingly common. The reason for this is our modern lifestyle, combined with the growing demand for technical and industrial goods which need to satisfy very different requirements. Mixed metals are increasing in value as demand for the pure metals contained in them is rising. Zorba is shredded aluminium, which may also contain soft lead, zinc, stainless steel, iron, brass, copper or nickel. Like heavies, zurik is a mixture of metals composed primarily of stainless steel. Zorba and zurik are important designations in international trade.
Where do mixed metals occur?
Non-ferrous metals like zorba are found in appliances or end-of-life vehicles.
Zurik is a mixture of metals generated during the recycling process which then goes on to further processing.
Recycling mixed metals
Challenging mixes of materials require the highest level of recycling technology, as conventional sorting facilities are not able to achieve such a high level of purity. State-of-the-art, sensor-based sorting technology is able to significantly increase the value of mixed metals.
